All women and girls in Northern Irelandgiven a prison sentence will go to Hydebank Wood Prison to a unit called Ash House. Hydebank Wood is in South Belfast about 5 miles from the city centre.
Young girls (usually under the age of 17) may be held at Rathgael Juvenile Justice Centre in Bangor.
It is the judge who decides where you serve your prison sentence.
In Northern Irleand, 50% remission applies, which means that you will usually only serve half of the sentence read out by the judge in court.
