Victim Walkthrough Text Version

Being a victim of crime can be both an upsetting and a confusing experience. This virtual tour has been developed to provide information about the criminal justice system as it relates to a victim of crime.

The tour aims to guide any victim of crime through the criminal justice processes they will encounter from the time a crime is reported, through the police investigation, prosecution decision making, court processes, sentencing and beyond. It provides key information on all these processes and on the personal support that is available to victims at all stages before, during and after the court case. The virtual tour aims to make the process that bit easier to understand and provides a victim with some idea of what they can realistically expect to happen.

Our aim has been to make the process as clear as possible but there may be certain terms and legal language that you do not understand. Most of these are explained more fully in the glossary section (see menu).

There are hyperlinks indicated which, when clicked upon, will lead to further sources of information. This includes contact details for relevant organisations where you will be able to obtain more information, advice and support.

We hope you find this virtual tour useful. Please help us to best meet the needs of victims of crime by completing the feedback form provided when you have completed the tour
