Immediate Response
If you witness a crime being committed or suspicious behaviour you should immediately contact the police. You should call 999 or if you are worried about confidentiality, use the anonymous Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111.
Witnesses in Court
The Government funds the NSPCC to provide support for young people who may be prosecution witnesses in a criminal trial. The police, Social Services or the Public Prosecution Service will notify the NSPCC if a young person will be needed as a witness in court, and will contact those involved as soon as possible. A designated volunteer will give the young person, and their parent or carer, support before a decision is made to proceed with the case, as well as during the time leading up to the trial.
